The world of international trade and its documents

What are some stages of development for businesses? There are several ways to think about it, but if we had to divide it into two categories, it would be local and international. Local and international businesses function differently and both have their own methods and strategies. For example, on the one hand international business means that the business is bigger and most of the time, more successful that the local one, but one the other hand, it means that it becomes harder to manage it. When you have an international business, you need to know how to trade. International trade is a complicated world of documentations, agreements and connections. If you are new to this world, it may seem to you that you will never be able to adapt. No worries, Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce is here to help you.

You are not the only one. Even really experienced traders can have some problems with documentation. Good news for you is that our company has 50 years of experience in international trade documentation. So, you totally rely on us. Here’s the list of export documents you have to be familiar with:

Certificate of origin: Often referred to as CO. This document is a must in international trade. It contains information about the good that was manufactured, the country it was exported to and the country it was exported from, whether or not the product was eligible for import… to prepare certificate of origin, it was to be approved and certified by chamber of commerce, such as Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce.

Letter of credit: Letter of credit is needed to guarantee that the payment from the buyer to the seller will be received on time. Over time, this document has become more and more useful for international traders, because of the differences in countries. When laws and regulations are different in each country, when distance plays an important role, it is hard to ensure the other side of trade that payment will not get lost or be late without an official document.

International import certificate: This certificate insures that imported goods won’t be re-exported without export license. It usually applies to controlled goods, such as military goods, dual-use, chemicals and so on. Preparing this document can be quite a hassle, because of the number of regulations you need to know.
